If you want to use an LM311 in place of the CA3140E in the RIB, you will have to make the following modifications:

• Ground both pins 1 and 4.
• Swap pins 2 and 3.
• Connect +5V to pin 8 instead of pin 7.
• Take the output from pin 7 instead of pin 6.
• Connect a pullup resistor from the output (pin7) to +5V (pin 8).
